We may be a bit bias…but here are a few reasons to choose road tripping hands down.
· You’re immersed in the culture. That’s right! Rather than being enclosed inside a resort, road tripping allows you to be in the culture. Instead of seeing guests in and out of their rooms along with holiday hospitality staff, you’ll see commuters on their way to work, kids going to school, and locals enjoying the best bars and restaurants.
· A REAL food experience. Don’t get me wrong, resort food is brilliant. There is nothing easier than an all-inclusive experience complete with free booze. However, we all know the most rewarding experiences aren’t always easy. With Google, TripAdvisor and Yelp, finding the local favorites is an easy feat. It’s also fun to compare your experience with the reviews.
· Way better vacation stories. Over the course of my road tripping days, I’ve acquired quite the collection of road trip surprises, delights and horrors. All, which I frequently share at dinners and pubs with family and friends. Which sounds better: a memory of just being relaxed? Or broke down in the middle of the Mojave Desert? I pick a lifetime story telling of road trips!
· Instagram pictures for days. You can only have so many beach pictures before all your friends want to throw up. Road tripping gives you an immense amount of picture-taking variety. For me, that includes being bumper-to-bumper traffic with Kim Kardashian on the 405, driving Big Sur and seeing a Grizzly Bear roadside in Montana.
· Use your money for adventure! Resorts extras are damn expensive, especially if they're not all-inclusive. Save your money for the fun stuff. Instead of a $25 dollar cocktail, use that money to Kayak Lake Tahoe or rent a bike for the day in Santa Monica, Ca. Overall, road tripping will most likely be less expensive and more enjoyable.
· Think about life or live your life? Whenever I find myself on a beach, there is something about it that makes you daydream and immediately start thinking about your life, job or relationships. Maybe I find it boring. But with road tripping, I’ve found it to be the ultimate life rejuvenator. There is never a dull moment in the car navigating around unknown territory! It’s living in the moment!
